DATES: Registration/Weigh-In: Friday, December13,2024, 3:00-5:00 PM at venue. December14,2024, 8:00 AM – Registration/Weigh in for confirmed late arrivals and neighbor island athletes. 8:30 AM – Officials/Volunteers/Coaches Meeting. 9:00 AM –Competition starts. Call times TBA
Competition Rules/Guidelines: WT, USAT. Maybe modified to adapt to local conditions and to accommodate competitors with no other competitors in their official division.
Competitor Qualification: open for all ranks. Black Belts must be either Kukkiwon, AAU or USAT certified or have written permission from head instructor.
Coach Qualification: Coaches must have WT, USAT or AAU certification or be a Kukkiwon, USAT or AAU certified black belt.
Awards: medals for all first, second and 2 third place winners.
Equipment: Mouth guards, groin guards for males, WT style or WT approved shin+instep guards and forearm protectors are required for all competitors. WT approved gloves are mandatory for black belts only and optional for color belts. All sparring competitors will use the provided Daedo body protectors. They need to bring Daedo Gen 2 footgear. Daedo Head gear will be provided for all competitors in divisions with head kicks allowed. Competitors in divisions with no head contact need to bring their own red, blue or white head gear.

COMPETITOR ENTRY FEES: Early Registration until October 31, 2024:One event $100, each additional event $20
Regular Registration until November 30, 2024: One event $110, each additional event $20
Final Registration until December 11,2024: one event:$130, each additional event $20
COACH ENTRY FEES: $30 under 10 competitors, free with 10+ competitors
EVENTS: Olympic Style Sparring, Poomsae, Board Breaking
REFEREES: Preference will be given to International Referees. There will be one day of competition. All selected Referees will receive lunch and accommodation for 2 nights in a double occupancy room to be shared with another referee.
MAUI OPEN SPARRING WEIGHT DIVISIONS & COMPETITION FORMAT
Weight division will be determined according to registration. Every effort will be made to fairly match competitors by:
Color Belts Ages 4-5, 6-7,8-9,10-11,12-14,15-17, 18-32, 33-39, 40-49, 50+), Weight (light, middle, heavy except for Cadets +Junior + Senior Black Belts see below) Rank: White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, Black
SPARRING –WT weight divisions and sparring rules apply for Black belts ages 12+. USAT/AAU Light Head contact/JUNIOR SAFETY RULES apply for color belts ages 12-17 and black belts ages 6-11. There will be no head contact allowed for color belts ages 4-11 unless ALL coaches in a division agree to light head contact.

Color belts can choose between the two poomsae assigned to their belt level. For example, yellow belts may perform Taegeuk 1 or 2. White belts can perform their school specific Basic form.
BLACK BELT POOMSAE: Refer to USATKD Poomsae Rules for Individual, Pair, Team, Free style, Mixed Poomsae events.
DESIGNATED BLACK BELT POOMSAE for Individuals, pairs and teams will be chosen from official WT sports compulsory poomsae and POSTED ONLINE 1 WEEK PRIOR TO EVENT.
BOARD BREAKING: Each competitor shall provide board holders. Boards must be purchased at the venue. No props other than the human body (no chairs, tape, wooden holders) 2023 Maui Open breaking rules
