Weight division will be determined according to registration. Every effort will be made to fairly match competitors by:

  • age (6-7,8-9,10-11,12-14,15-17, 18-32, 33-39, 40-49, 50+),
  • weight(light, middle, heavy except for Cadets +Junior + Senior Black Belts see below )
  • rank ( Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, Black)

Color belts can choose between the two poomsae assigned to their belt level. For example Yellow belts may perform Taegeuk 1 or 2.

TRADITIONAL TAEKWONDO POOMSAE:  Ages: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-14, 15-17, 18-40, 41+

Beginners (10th gup thru 6th gup), Intermediate (5th gup thru 1st gup), Black Belts

ITF and WT forms are allowed and performance will be judged on the basis of beauty, grace, rhythm, focus, power, and technique. Divisions may be combined or broken down at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

BOARD BREAKING:

2018 Maui Open breaking rules

Tournament Committee may modify some rules according to the local condition: Maximum of 5-stations and a time limit of two(2) minutes shall be given to set up and complete the break, with three (3) chances allowed at each station. Each competitor shall provide board holders. Boards must be purchased at the venue. No props other than the human body (no chairs, tape, wooden holders)

TEAM MAKE UP

Each male or female team will consist of 3 weight divisions classified under Light, Middle and Heavy.  In order to form a team, each team must enter three (3) athletes in minimum, one per weight division. Athlete can move up one weight division. • Each Team may have up to five (5) active athletes, two(2) max. per each weight division. If a team has 4 athletes, then only 1 division has 2 athletes. All Divisions are Black Belt Divisions. Color Belts may participate with coach’s authorization.  Maui Open Tag team sparring rules
